A shift is needed…

Good evening, readers.  I got a decent amount of writing done today.  No too shabby considering I was busy with church related things throughout the day.  Tonight, I was able to sit back with a glass of Cab Franc and cranked out a bunch of words.

So far, I’ve shared with you the plot of the story, and gave you an excerpt.  But now, I’m going to share some information about the main character to this year’s NaNoWriMo novel!

Meet Matt Donavan, the primary protagonist of Struggles of a Modern Vampire.

MEET Matt Donavan

Name: Matthew Jin-ho Donavan

Nickname: Matt, MattDon

Age: 26

Hair: Short, straight, and black

Skin: Very pale

Favorite color: Violet

Favorite Music: Classic Rock

Favorite Food: AB+ Blood

Likes: Dogs, RPGs, eating, math, watching Netflix, working out, Star Trek

Dislikes: Cats, blood, job hunting, garlic, Doctor Who?

Most prized possession: A ring he took from his sire

Why?: He ripped it off of his hand when he was bitten, he’s kept it ever since

Personality flaws: No initiative, unhappy most of the time

Personality strengths: Perseverance, tough when he needs to be, funny at times

Matt had a normal suburban childhood with loving parents.  He always had dreams of being a rock star, but was never good at any instrument he ever tried.  In high school, he was too focused on girls and having fun, and only did well enough to get by,  He got into college, but he never really applied himself.

Shortly after he started at the University of Michigan, he was captured in the night and bit by a vampire.  In the middle of the attack, Matt tore the ring off the vampire’s finger and has kept it ever since.  The pain of turning into a vampire was awful.  Now that he was a creature of the dark, he dropped out of school, and because he now had to be active in the night, his entire life has gone into a downward spiral.

After seven years, he’s in a crummy apartment he can barely afford, has hardly any money, and can’t keep a job due to the fact that he can only work during the night, and has to hunt every few days or so.  He’s fallen into routine, and is looking for a way to make his cursed life better, all while wondering who the vampire who sired him was.

* * *

Matt’s a poor vampire, he just can’t seem to catch a break.  Little does he know that things are about to get interesting for him.

Current word count for Struggles of a Modern Vampire: 19,864/50,000!

Until next time,

Andrew Ronzino, Level 12 Paladin
